Learn to do things yourself It’s great when you have a boyfriend/girlfriend who is a good cook, can fix a car, handyman/woman but when they are away you have to get used to doing things for yourself. Even go as far as taking courses in for example ..cooking or basic car maintenance or house maintenance. I remember calling my husband once when our basement flooded and he said what the heck can I do ..I am in another country. Find friends and family that can help you when you really need help.

Trust is a huge factor Long distance relationships stand the test of time only if you trust each other. They need to know that they can trust you while they are away. You will have long bouts of loneliness but understand that they are too. But keep busy, sitting around waiting for the next email or call will not help. Keep in touch with your family, and good friends and make sure that you have a social life that keeps you from turning to someone just for comfort. Stay away from drinking or drugs that will make the situation even worse.

Find women or men who have family that are deployed and lean on them for support and coping skills. You would be surprised how close knit the Military and Army groups are. Support each other and the time will go by faster and you will learn how to cope while they are deployed.
